This is the factory push button, start button found in all 2015 through 2016 GT350s and GT350Rs. The all red button gives the car a really race inspired look that a lot of people would like to have for their normal Mustang and prefer that look over the factory red and silver. Here you can see the GT350 button next to the stock button found on all 2015 through 2016 Mustangs. The bright red button has more of a race look it that a lot of owners would like and being that they're the exact same button, they are interchangeable.
This video is going to be a little different than our normal installation videos. As Ford performances that an excellent video show you the entire process for installing the push button, start button. If you want to see that video, simply click the link below. They also provide a 33 page manual and some extra plastic clips in case you break them doing the installation. Now the install, the cording of Ford is quite involved. You've got to remove the console and half the center stack dashboard to get the button apart. We found a little bit easier way to do it. We're going to show you how.
The button cover's held onto the actual button itself only by these two clips on the outside edge here. You can pop one of them free, you can just get underneath it and pop the whole thing off. Doing it this way, you've got to be careful. Worst case, you're probably just going to break one of the factory clips off. We found if you use the pick and are very careful and take your time, you can do this installation in about a minute, versus about three to four hours doing it Ford's way.
The first thing you want to do is disconnect your battery. The reason being, we're not disconnecting any electrical connections, we're going to be pushing the start, stop buttons. Obviously you don't want the engine starting. Disconnect the battery before you begin the installation. The button's held in place by two small slips, one on this corner here and the other one is on this bottom corner down here. Unfortunately, due to the location of the dash, neither one of them is going to accessible. The best option is to go right in the middle of the two clips, on the opposite corner here, where you actually can get a small pick in place. When you pull up on it, you put pressure on both clips at the same time and they'll pop off.
I'm using an angled pick. A straight pick will also work. I put a little tape on just to try to protect the dash and make sure I don't mark the dash up. What I'll do is go in this corner here and we're going to get underneath the button. Twist it off. I see the top clip. Go underneath, feel like this, twist off the bottom one. The installation of the new button couldn't be easier. You line up the opening up top here with the little light. It just make sure it's straight. Push it straight in. Your installation is finished.
The GT350 push button, start button is one of those subtle mods that actually adds a really cool look to the interior of the Mustang. As far as the installation goes, if you're comfortable, try one of the pick. It's really a 30 second installation. If not, you're going to spend a few hours, but either way it's a cool looking mod and you'll be back on the road in no time.
