Due to this fact, the founders of B&M Racing & Performance were in touch with the needs of racers and street performance enthusiasts, and they began developing the transmission parts they needed. As the aftermarket performance industry grew, B&M Racing & Performance followed suit, helping racers go faster, then developing better products that allowed them to set records, then break those records. In the 1950s, one of the key products for B&M Racing & Performance was the only patented 4-speed automatic racing transmissions in history, known as the B&M Hydro Stick. In 1965, one of their automatic transmissions piloted the first 200 mph Top Fuel run in history, and they also developed the first automatic transmission for Indy Car racing.

These accomplishments helped solidify B&M Racing & Performance's reputation as the leader in aftermarket and racing transmissions, and helped gain them significant say and development in transmissions for many automotive manufacturers in the 1970s. Throughout the years, B&M has worked to constantly improve and innovate, developing hundreds of new OEM replacement and racing transmission products, including shifters, flexplates, coolers, torque converters and more.
